1 in 28 kids have a

parent incarcerated.

The impact of parental incarceration on children can be severe, regardless of the country.

Welcome to Kids of Inmates (KOI), a non-profit organization that supports children of adults in custody. Our mission is to bridge the gap that incarceration creates and provide additional support during life events to help children curate positive memories during their formative years.

The National Institute of Justice found that 70% of incarcerated parents were the primary financial providers for their children before their incarceration, and 60% of them were living with their children before they were incarcerated.

We understand that children of adults in custody face unique challenges, and it's our goal to make sure no child is left behind.

Our programs focus on providing children with the resources they need to succeed, ensuring they have the following:

  • Connection for their Birthday

Our Birthday Program ensures that children of incarcerated parents receive a special gift for their birthday, custom messages, and birthday cards as a personal touch to remind them that they are loved and supported despite the separation.

  • Providing them with a memorable Christmas

Our Christmas program provides children gifts from their parents during the holiday season, creating positive memories of abundance and support.

  • School Supplies

Back to School program provides children with essential school supplies, promotes a positive relationship between parents and children, and encourages parents to better themselves through vocational or GED programs.

Research shows that when children associate these memories as positive, they are much more likely to feel supported, seen, and heard.

We are committed to transforming the experiences of children of adults in custody and creating opportunities for them to feel loved and supported.

With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of these children.
